Top 10 list of affordable colleges and universities in the country

Finding the right institution or university to complete a degree in preparation for a lifetime career can sometimes be very difficult and demanding not only in terms of their initial screening processes or exams but more so on the sky rocketing prices of tuition fees. But for those who would want to accept the challenge of finishing college despite their financial hardships, here is a list of the cheapest schools with four year courses that you can consider.



The data for 2011 showed that Haskell Indian Nations University has the lowest tuition among all the colleges in the entire U.S territory with a few exemptions. Haskell which is located in Lawrence, Kansas only charges $430 a year in tuition fees. Dine College is next with a registered tuition of only $805 a year. It spans the areas of New Mexico, Utah and Arizona serving 8 sites with the main campus located in Tsaile. Another tribal college is on the third spot – the Sitting Bull College. This school is located in Yates, North Dakota and was previously known as the Standing Rock College. It has an average tuition of $939 a year.

Aside from schools serving tribal communities, one of the most affordable state universities in the country is the University of Texas – Pan American also known as UTPA in the fourth slot. This school is located in Edinburg, Texas. They have a net tuition of $1,646 annually. Another public college is at the upper half of the list. Brazosport College (BC) has an annual charge of $1,692. They are located in Lake Jackson, Texas. West Virginia University at Parkersburg is one of the many public universities serving the public with reasonable annual tuition of $2,076 a year. As its name suggests, the campus is located in Parkersburg in West Virginia standing independently from WVU.

Moving on in the 7th spot is Palm Beach State College. Before it came to be known with its present name, it was previously called the Palm Beach Community College or Palm Beach Junior College with a tuition rate of $2,158 annually. At rank number 8 is Santa Fe College. This is another state owned facility serving the population and nearby areas of Gainesville, Florida. Tuition fees at this school are expected at $2,167 a year. And if you are fond of state colleges, you should be happy to know that Pensacola State College belongs to the top 10 list of the cheapest colleges in the country. Along with a few schools in Florida already in the list, this institution offers $2,179 in tuition fees every year. Completing the list is Midland College which is located in Midland, Texas and also offering a number of off-campus locations Fort Stockton and Pecos County. It has an average tuition of $2,220 a year.

One of the largest public schools in the entire country occupying the top 5 rank, this institution have over 4,300 students and is also considered as the largest public college in West Virginia offering a tuition of $2,076 annually.



Founded in 1933, Palm Beach State College underwent several name changes. From being known as the Palm Beach Junior College it was renamed as the Palm Beach Community College and finally to the name we know now. Its main campus is located in Lake Worth, Florida with several other facilities in Belle Glade, Boca Raton and Palm Beach Gardens. Tuition fees are at $2,158 a year. Also in the state of Florida, the Pensacola State College offers a very minimal tuition rate for interested students - $2,179 annually. The institution was founded in 1948 and was named as the Pensacola Junior College. The school was the pioneer of higher education in the area. It also holds quite a number of campuses spread out in the downtown area, Milton, Warrington as well as on the Naval Air Station Pensacola. Located in Orlando, Florida another public educational institution –the University of Central Florida established the College of Arts and Humanities in 2005 apart from the existing College of Sciences existing in the university. This is another potential low fees school which only charges $2,190 a year.

It has a few campuses including the one in Tsaile (main campus). Tuition fees at this school are at $805 yearly. Finally, holding the top spot is Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. The school was established in 1884 serving over 140 tribal nations and communities. This is the only school with less than $500 in school fees annually.
